Plumbing Daily Brief

— Our take

On "UA/MCAA Included in Google.org $50 Million Skilled Trades Workforce Investment"

Google throwing fifty million at the trades is real money, but you should be skeptical about what actually moves the needle for your labor shortage. Partnerships between tech giants and trade associations look good in press releases and help both sides get credit—Google gets community goodwill, MCAA gets validation—but most of these programs hit awareness and interest, not completion or actual bodies in the field. What matters is whether any of that cash flows to apprenticeships that lead to jobs, whether it funds training infrastructure your shops can actually tap into, or whether it's mostly marketing spend that disappears after the announcement cycle. Before you see this as a solution to finding help, wait and see if there's real money reaching local training programs and whether participants actually end up as hires.
