Plumbing Daily Brief

— Our take

On "HVAC Technician Day: Recognizing the Industry's Everyday Heroes"

National days for trades are mostly corporate cheerleading that don't move the needle on the actual problem: techs are burnt out, underpaid relative to the skilled work they do, and younger people see better odds in white-collar trades or software. A recognition day doesn't fix scheduling software that still assumes one tech can hit eight houses a day, or commission structures that pit efficiency against quality, or the fact that most shop owners treat technician retention as someone else's problem. If the industry wants to strengthen the pipeline, stop performing gratitude and start fixing the conditions that make experienced techs leave for contracting or management by their thirties.
