On "Jay R. Smith Mfg. Co. Fine-Line Linear Shower Drains"
Linear drains are a liability waiting to happen on most residential jobs, and this product doesn't change the fundamental problem: they clog easier than point drains and they cost more to install, maintain, and replace when they fail. The stainless steel and designer grate story is marketing noise—what matters is whether the trap design actually prevents biofilm buildup and whether you can actually clear it without ripping up tile. Before you spec one of these on a client who doesn't explicitly want it, make sure you're prepared to explain why you're charging extra and why their shower is going to need service sooner than a traditional drain would.
