CIPP

Also known as Cured-in-place pipe

Trenchless pipe rehabilitation method where resin-saturated felt tube is inverted or pulled into a damaged pipe, then cured in place to form a new inner pipe.

CIPP is a no-dig repair technique for corroded, cracked, or sagging sewer and water lines. A felt tube impregnated with epoxy or polyester resin gets inserted into the existing pipe—either by inversion (turned inside-out under air or water pressure) or pullthrough—then heat-cured to harden. The resulting composite liner bonds to the host pipe and creates a structural layer that seals leaks and resists further deterioration.

In the field, CIPP eliminates the need to excavate, which saves labor and avoids damage to pavement, landscaping, and utilities above the line. It works on residential laterals, municipal mains, and even lines with bends and offsets, though severe collapses or massive cracks may require initial cleaning and spot repairs. The liner thickness is typically 3–5 mm, and it restores hydraulic capacity and structural integrity without the mess and cost of dig-and-replace.

Common on sewer rehab jobs and increasingly used for water main renewal. Cure times vary by method and ambient temperature, and the process requires access points (cleanouts or pits) for insertion. Job-site conditions—water, debris, existing laterals, and pipe size—determine whether inversion or pullthrough works best.
